How To Prepare Your Hair For Wedding Day
As with your preview appointment, the longevity of your style depends on a lot of factors: your hair type (whether it holds curls well), the hairstyle you chose, your dress style, your wedding morning attire (collared shirts are not a friend of hair stylists), weather conditions (indoor vs. outdoor, humidity, heat, sweat,), etc. These tips should be followed by anyone in the bridal party, mothers or any other member receiving services.
- Please have your hair freshly washed within 24 hours of the scheduled trial & 100% dry. Make sure to double cleanse your roots and leave no conditioner residue on hair.
- An additional $20 fee for artist to blow dry hair will be applied if hair was not 100% dry at time of appointment. This will also likely set us back about 20-30 minutes in the timeline.
- Artist may ask any client with visibly greasy hair to go wash it before being styled. This will likely mess with the timing of the morning so it is important to sit down with clean hair.
- No steaming on the morning of once your hair and/or makeup is done. Steaming should be done the night before, ideally.
- If you want to embrace your natural curls, wash hair the night before or morning of and use your regular styling products. (Hair must be 100% dry before styling though).
- If you have naturally coarse/curly hair and want a sleek style, make sure to blow dry hair straight before appointment.
- Do not straighten with a flat iron! Curls will not hold over hair that has been flat-ironed.
- A professional blow-out would be ideal but not required.
- Using a voluminous liquid spray or mousse at the root/mid-shaft before you blow dry will help to give hair texture and extra hold!
- If you are planning to use extensions on wedding day (I suggest using extensions for almost any style), just like your natural hair, extensions need to be freshly washed and 100% dry.
- Extensions need to be 100% human hair, as synthetic will melt on a hot tool. My favorite type of extensions to work with are Luxy Hair. A more affordable but lower quality, alternative are Goo Goo extensions.
- Extensions need to be freshly washed and 100% dry.
- Extensions cannot be straight from packaging. Extensions usually have a waxy film on them that needs to be washed off before styling. Styling with unwashed extensions will have a piecey look that does not blend well with your own hair.
How To Prepare For Your Makeup On Wedding Day
- Get a facial and a spray tan!! I offer both of these services, please ask me for more details if you would be interested in either service.
- That being said, I would not try these for the first time the week of the wedding. Facials and tans should be "previewed" ahead of time, to ensure there are no negative reactions close to wedding day.
- Skin needs to be freshly washed, with no trace of yesterday’s makeup. Please remove all mascara and/or lash glue from lashes, especially if you use a waterproof mascara. Lashes will look clumpy if they are not completely free of residual product.
- Today is not the day to try something new when it comes to your skin. This means nothing you haven't previously used or tested on your skin, more than a week before the wedding.
- To follow up on the last tip, do NOT use pimple patches the morning of, even if you have used them before. They remove the top layer of skin when you pull them off and there will be a visible line of delineation.
- No steaming on the morning of once your hair and/or makeup is done. Steaming should be done the night before, ideally.
- Brush your teeth, put in your contacts and take allergy medication if you are prone to eye watering prior to your scheduled appointment time. The less you touch your face after your makeup is done, the longer it will last.
- Bring a lipstick for touchups (unless purchasing one of my touchup kits). No lipstick on the market will last all day without reapplication.
